Reading Medieval Spanish Manuscripts

Delve deeper into the scripts of Medieval Iberia

A fully online course

This one-week online course, supported by two Q&A sessions with your tutor, will take you through the key scripts used in the Iberian Peninsula for the writing of books, from the Late Roman period to the very end of the Middle Ages.

Entirely at your own pace

The course is made into five sessions, which you can take at any time during your 8 weeks of access to the platform. Each session has a Guided Transcription video, a practice pack, downloadable transcripts and lists of resources.

Please note this is not a Medieval Latin or Spanish course. Although it is not essential, familiarity with both languages and with the basics of Latin Palaeography will help you make the most of the course. Feel free to contact us (study.imems@durham.ac.uk) if you have any questions.
